Hertz Mexico Rental Terms for travel between 14-Feb-2017 and 31-Dec-2024
An initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard.
The balance is to be paid directly to the supplier on arrival.
The supplier accepts American Express, Visa and Master cards. No surcharge applies for credit card payments for Hertz.
Temporary Debit Card qualifying requirements are:
- Meet minimum age requirements as per normal rental qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License
- Matching name on Driver’s License and debit card
- Debit card must be magswiped using the signature capture device
- Debit cards will be processed through the credit check at time of rental, if the credit check is denied, another form of payment will be required.
- Authorization must be obtained to cover rental charges.
Cash deposits will not be accepted. The renter must present an acceptable credit card in addition to the prepaid voucher. The credit card must have minimum credit of US $600.00.
Minimum rental age is 18 years in all locations in Mexico (age differential fee of US$11.00/day applies for renters between the ages of 18 – 24 years). Renters must present a valid national driver's license, a return airline ticket, and the voucher. A credit card in the renter's name is mandatory.
Additional Authorized Driver
Additional authorized drivers must be registered in the rental agreement. There is a US$7.00 per day charge for additional authorized drivers. Minimum rental age for additional authorized drivers will be the same as for the renter. A credit card in the name of the additional authorized driver is strongly recommended, but not mandatory.
Minimum Rental Period
Minimum rental period is one day.
A rental commencing prior to the peak season and terminating within the surcharged period will not be surcharged (e.g., Rentals picked up before December 15 and running into the surcharge time December 20 will be charged at normal tour rates). If a reservation is made for pick up anytime during a peak season surcharge period, then the surcharge rate will apply to the entire rental.
Rental charges are applied on a 24-hour clock. Should the customer pick up their vehicle at 5:00 p.m., the weekly charge is in effect for seven (7) days and must be returned by 5:00 p.m. on the seventh day. The customer will be granted 59 minutes of grace and then extra hours will be charged at the extra day charge. Optional coverages are charged at the full day rate even if the excess time is 59 minutes.
One-way rentals are available throughout all participating locations in Mexico and are allowed on all car groups. One way rentals will be charged at a rate of .50 US per kilometer unless otherwise indicated below.

Mexican vehicles cannot be driven outside of Mexico (e.g., cannot go into Guatemala/Belize). Vehicles may be driven into the United State if the customer requests authorization and purchases a special liability insurance for the United States. If insurance is not taken, CDW is invalid in the United States.
COZUMEL Intercity Policy:
Customers wishing to intercity to Cozumel will be charged an intercity fee to Playa del Carmen, the ferry charge from Puerto Morelos to Cozumel (Puerto Morelos is located near Playa del Carmen; customer is responsible for the ferry charge, which is to be paid at the dock), and $10 additional intercity fee to Cozumel, plus any applicable tax.
Upgrade/Extension of Rentals
Voluntary extension of rentals notified to Hertz at the time of rental will be charged at locally applicable rates. If a customer decides to upgrade at the time of rental, there will be a locally applicable rate.
Tour operators will be charged for the number of days printed on the tour voucher, regardless of the number of days the renter actually rents. If the client returns the vehicle early, the tour operator will be charged at the full value of the voucher. Exceptions, such as medical emergencies, death in the family, etc., will be handled afterwards by Customer Relations. Clients renting for longer than voucher value will be charged at applicable rates at the time of rental. Upgrades will be charged at locally applicable rates.
Vouchers are valid for a period of up to 30 days only. The customer will need additional vouchers for each 30-day rental period. The renter will be required to see the next Hertz location to renew the contract every 30 days.
Other Terms and Conditions
* Rates are non-discountable and may be increased in jurisdictions that during the period covered by these rates change their laws to prohibit the offering of optional services or to impose requirements that increase Hertz' cost of doing business.
* The renter is responsible for I.V.A. (sales tax), other applicable taxes, tax reimbursement, surcharges (whether imposed by the government or Hertz), airport fees or similar charges as well as CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), optional refueling, PAI (Personal Accident Insurance) and any other Hertz service or item charges, unless stated as being included in the quoted rates.
Third Party Liability
Non-Resident renters receive third party liability total coverage of US$30,000 combined.
LIS - Liability Insurance Supplement
Liability Insurance Supplement is available at locations in Mexico for a rate of US US$13/day for all locations. Purchasing LIS increases liability coverage up to US$100,000.00 (combined).
PAI - Personal Accident Insurance
If a customer purchases PAI, he will be covered up to US $20,000 for all passengers, not per person in AVASA.
PAI is available at all participating locations for an additional charge of currently US $3.00 per day and is due for each full or partial rental day.
Vehicles are covered for Theft Protection with a 10% deductible, regardless of whether the customer purchases CDW, PAI, etc. in AVASA locations.
CDW - Collision Damage Waiver
If not already included in the proposed net rates, CDW is available at a cost of US$30 per day at time of rental. If customer declines CDW, a hold of US$1,000 is put on the customer’s credit card to cover possible damages, which will be released at end of rental. (Please Note: Release of hold may take up to 15 days, depending upon Credit Card Company.)
CDW - Collision Damage Waiver (continued)
CDW covers up to 90% of the damages and the customer is responsible for the first 10% of the commercial value of the vehicle. If the customer does not purchase CDW, he is responsible for 100% of the damage. Mexico locations offer LDW at a cost of US $38.95/day + tax in all Mexican locations.
LDW-Loss damage Waiver 0% deductible
LDW covers up to 100%of the damages and the customer is responsible for 0% of the commercial value of the vehicle.
Negligence cancels any coverage bought by customer and customer would be responsible for all damages.

The renter is responsible for I.V.A. (Value Added Tax), which is 16% , unless stated as being included in the quoted net rates.

Terms of booking on this website
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
