“DOLLAR DOES NOT ACCEPT INSURANCE COVERAGES PURCHASED ON THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES”
INSURANCE COVERAGE OPTIONS
Dollar highly recommends that U.S. customers purchase insurance to help protect them against personal liability in Mexico for damages to the rental car or to third-parties and their property. Customers who do not purchase insurance coverages from Dollar, and who have not arranged for other insurance coverage that is valid in Mexico, may be personally responsible to Dollar and/or third-parties for damages up to the full value of the rental vehicle and/or for all damages caused to third-parties and their property. The validity of insurance for claims occurring in Mexico is governed by Mexican law. Customers
considering whether to purchase insurance from Dollar are directed to the advisory for U.S.
travelers to Mexico that is contained on the United States Department of State website, which states in part: “U.S. automobile liability insurance is not valid in Mexico, nor is most collision and comprehensive coverage issued by U.S. companies.” http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/country/mexico.html (emphasis added).
For your convenience, Dollar offers for purchase at the rental counter several insurance type products that can help reduce or eliminate your liability for damages to the rental vehicle or for injuries or damage caused to third-parties while you are driving the rental vehicle in Mexico. Although each of these coverages is optional, Dollar strongly recommends the purchase of appropriate coverages for your own protection.
COLLISION AND THEFT COVERAGE
Dollar offers two types of insurance to protect you against damages resulting from collision and theft.
LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER (LDW):
LDW covers certain damages and losses to the Dollar vehicle caused by collision and theft, except for a deductible payable by the renter. (LDW coverage excludes damages caused by vandalism; excludes any damage to the tires, glass, rims; and excludes other incidentals.)
The LDW deductible is US $1,500 for Economy through Fullsize vehicles and US $2,500 for Minivans and SUVs. If LDW is declined, the customer will be responsible to Dollar for damages up to the full value of the rental vehicle. The price for LDW coverage is US $20 to US $22 per day, depending on the vehicle category and rental location.
SUPER DAMAGE WAIVER (SDW)
SDW covers all damages and loss to the Dollar vehicle caused by collision and theft, with no deductible. It also covers tires, glass, rims, and other incidentals not covered by the LDW. (SDW excludes damages caused by vandalism.) The price for SDW ranges from US $15 to US $17 per day depending on the vehicle category and the rental location. SDW can only be purchased together with LDW and Supplemental Liability Excess (SLE).
PERSONAL LIABILITY COVERAGE
Basic personal liability insurance (PLI) is included in the base rental rate and covers the liability of the driver for bodily injury to third parties and for property damage (other than damage to the rental vehicle) up to a maximum of MXN 750,000 pesos. You are advised, however, that this basic coverage may not cover the full extent of your potential liability for personal or property injuries under the laws of the various states of Mexico in which the injury or damage may occur. For personal injury claims, a driver in many Mexican states may be liable for between MXN 2,000,000 to MXN 4,000,000 pesos in liability per person, per occurrence.
If you desire additional liability insurance protection to better protect you against the liability exposure for a particular State, Dollar offers the following protection:
SUPPLEMENTAL LIABILITY EXCESS (SLE)
SLE increases the basic PLI coverage to MXN$2,000,000 - $4,000,000 pesos.
The price for SLE is US $16.99 per day.
PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE (PAI)
PAI reimburses medical expenses for the driver and passengers of the rental car up to MXN 200,000 pesos. The cost of PAI is $4.99 per day.
CREDIT CARD DEPOSIT REQUIREMENTS
Depending on the type of insurance purchased, Dollar requires the following credit card authorization hold amounts in addition to the estimated cost of the rental. Amounts subject to these authorization holds will not be available for your use while the hold is in place: If LDW is accepted, the amount hold to your credit card is: 2,000 USD.
EMERGENCY ROAD ASSISTANCE
Emergency Roadside Assistance (ERA) is an optional benefit that is automatically added to all contracts at a surcharge of US $1.99 per day. ERA covers delivery of keys in case of a lockout, tire changes, jump starts, and emergency fuel service (maximum 5 liters of fuel) in the case of an empty gas tank. ERA services are only provided within 120 km of the rental location. If the renter wishes to decline ERA coverage, he must do so at the rental counter at the time of rental pickup. If ERA is declined, the renter shall be responsible for any charges incurred in connection with the services listed above.
EMERGENCY TRAVEL SERVICE
Emergency Travel Service (ETS) coverage is an optional benefit that is automatically added to all International renter contracts at a surcharge of US $2.49 per day. ETS covers emergency medical evacuation and repatriation, including return of dependent children and traveling companion, where necessary due to serious injury or illness to a covered renter. If the renter wishes to decline this coverage, he must do so at the rental counter at the time of rental pickup. If ETS is declined, the renter shall be responsible for any charges incurred in connection with the services listed above.
For your convenience, the estimated cost of your rental may be provided in US dollars during the reservation process. At the time of rental, however, the local rental car counter in Mexico will assess the actual charge for the rental in Mexican pesos based on the currency conversion rate published the previous day by the Bank of Mexico. The currency conversion rate fluctuates daily. As a result, the conversion of the rental car cost from US dollars to Mexican pesos may result in an actual charge that is higher or lower than the estimated cost of the rental at the time of reservation. In addition, by paying with a credit card not
issued in Mexico, your bank may convert the total amount paid in Mexican currency into your home currency for purposes of your credit card statement. This conversion may also be subject to fluctuations in the currency conversion rate used to convert Mexican pesos into your home currency. The rental location has no control over the monetary conversions used by your credit card company or any foreign transaction fee surcharges imposed by your credit card company.
FREQUENT FLYER SURCHARGE
When the renter chooses to receive Frequent Flyer miles, we will collect a Frequent Flyer surcharge up to US $1.50 per day at the time of rental to offset a portion of the annual cost of participation in the Frequent Flyer program.
We will honor all reservations up to two hours after the reserved pick up time has passed. You may call us or email us to change your pick up time and we will honor your reservation. We will consider you a “no-show” if your reserved car is not picked up within two hours of your reserved time. Although we will try our best to accommodate “no-shows” and late pickups, please understand that our ability to honor your reservation after two hours depends on availability.
Our locations have the following products and services available upon request at the time of rental for an additional surcharge: GPS / Baby Seats / Maps / Accessories. Prices for these products vary and are subject to availability.
ONE WAY RENTALS
Please be advised that all “one way” rentals are subject to a drop off fee.
After declaring your luggage from customs, go directly to the car rental counters in the airport lobby, if available, or proceed outside where a Dollar representative will be waiting for you to arrange a shuttle transfer to the pickup location. Beware of other local companies trying to lure you into renting from their company. Dollar Car Rental is not responsible for any losses incurred as a result of renting from an unauthorized airport car rental agent.
Dollar requires that the rental vehicle be returned with a full tank of gas or with the same amount of gas that was in the tank at the time of pickup, as reflected on the pickup documentation. If the car is returned with less fuel than it had at the time of pickup, Dollar will assess a refueling charge consisting of the cost of the fuel necessary to reach the original pickup fuel level, plus a service charge (which may be combined into one “per liter” amount). To ensure avoidance of refueling charges and for your own convenience, we highly recommend that customers elect our prepaid gas option at the time of the rental.
The renting driver must be at least 18 years old, and possess a valid driver’s license and major credit card in his or her own name at the time of rental.
Renters 18-20 are subject to a surcharge of US $25/day and are required to purchase LDW and SLE.
Renters 21-24 are subject to a surcharge of US $15/day.
Max. Age of Driver: 70
Valid drivers license issued by country of residence must have been held for at least: 2 years
RESERVATION AND RENTAL ADJUSTMENTS
Any changes to the reservation or rental may result in a change of rate or additional fees.
MEXICO CITY TRAVEL
Due to municipal laws regarding the environment, rental cars driven in Mexico City that were rented outside of Mexico City, Toluca, or Queretaro may be subject to driving restrictions or bans in Mexico City of one or two days, depending on the last two digits of the license plate and the air quality level during the rental period. Customers driving such cars during a restricted period may be subject to citation and fine. Dollar cars rented within Mexico City, Toluca, and Queretaro have special license plates that permit unrestricted driving within Mexico City.
BAJA CALIFORNIA PENINSULA TRAVEL
Traveling by car in Baja California Peninsula may be difficult and is at the renter’s own risk and responsibility. The roads in this area are unpaved and in bad condition. Many areas and roads have no gas stations, hotels, or similar amenities. Traffic is sparse. Customers may be forced to wait two or three days for assistance.
DRIVE SAFELY: Always drive safe, buckle up, and never drink and drive.
Terms of booking on this website
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
